September, 1999  -  Unofficial Business Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Myra Powell.

Roll Call of Chapters - The following were present:

  • Alpha Tau chapter - Richard Hays*
  • Beta Lambda chapter - Ruth Eakin
  • Chicago Area chapter - Trish Genovese*
  • Detroit Area chapter - Emma Mahar and Jean Wright*
  • Fort Wayne Area chapter - Marty Burns
  • Gamma Delta chapter - Myra Wright Powell*
  • Gamma Gamma chapter - Marsha Berry, Liz Douglass, Carol Cannon, Charlotte Miller, and Kay Plew.
  • Gamma Nu chapter - Barbara Foster*
  • Indianapolis Area chapter - Susan Grimes and Amy Meadors
  • Northern Indiana chapter - Carol Paulhun.

*Designates that the person is also a voting officer in the region.

Quorum Report - Barbara Foster reported that there are 10 chapters, 5 officers, and 1 proxy vote represented for a total of 16.   A quorum is 18.  We therefore do not have a quorum to conduct official business.

Minutes - The October 3-4, 1998 and July, 1999 minutes are not yet ready.

Treasurer Report - No Report.

Secretary Report - No Report.

Executive Board Report / Recommendations

Student Vice-President Report - Student input has been requested for the region.

COMMITTEE CHAIR REPORTS 

Audit - No Report.

Awards - Kay Plew reported the summary / recommendations of the committee:

  • We reviewed the lists of awards presented in 1999.  The list has been updated and is attached.
  • Certificates from the Biennial have been corrected and will be distributed (those attending will receive them today).
  • New Award forms are ready to be distributed to chapters (those attending will receive them today).   These include:   Pi Lambda Thetan Award,  Outstanding Young Professional Achievement Award,  and Outstanding Professional Achievement Award.
  • Recognize members in increments of five (5) years.  We need to explore various awards.

Bylaws - No Report.

Conference Committee - The 2000 Professional Conference will be held at Troy, Michigan on July 28-30 at the Marriott.   Speakers and presenters are being obtained.

Finance - No Report.

Long-Range Planning - Marsha Berry presented the following summary / recommendation:

Our directive was to write a mission statement for Region II.   We propose ...

Great Lakes Region II provides leadership, professional development and mentoring opportunities, while serving as a bridge between International and local chapters of Pi Lambda Theta.  

Membership & Retention - No Report.

Special Projects - No Report.

Facilitator of South Bend Meetings

Historian - No Report.

Information Bank - Target general membership - bring three programs, suggestions, and/or ideas that work for our chapter.

Newsletter Editor - The deadline for the next newsletter is February 15th.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Financial assistance to the Region II officers for attendance at Biennial Council was confirmed.   A reimbursement request form should be completed and given to the region treasurer.

NEW BUSINESS

The dates for our Spring, 2000 meeting were confirmed for April 7th & 8th at the Hampton Inn and Suites in South Bend.   You may make your reservations today.

ANNOUNCEMENTS 

  • As of October 15th, Myra Powell's address and phone number will be changing.   This information was also printed in the newsletter.
  • The silent auction raised $71.00 for the scholarship fund.
