July, 1999  -  Unofficial Business Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Myra Powell.   It was held at the Marriott in Atlanta, Georgia during the 1999 Pi Lambda Theta Biennial Council.

Myra welcomed all Region II Representatives and guests.  Everyone was asked to introduce themselves and their chapter.   Myra asked everyone to join her in a moment of silence in memory of our deal friend and past First Vice-President  Ethyle Trovinger.

Myra invited everyone to the Region II Professional Conference in Troy, Michigan in July, 2000.   She then introduced the host chapter co-chairpersons:   Evelyn Kozar,  Emma Mahar,  and Jean Wright of the Detroit Area Chapter.  Jean distributed folders regarding accommodations, theme, date (July 28-30), and enthusiastically promoted the conference.  She also passed out sign-up sheets for committees.  Jean shared ideas for the sessions and speakers.

Biennial awards ... were then presented by Kay  Plew and Richard Hays.  They included:

Initiation Awards

  • Bronze (2-20 initiates) - Evansville Area, Central Ohio, Gamma Pi, Lambda, Greater Milwaukee, Toledo, Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Beta Delta, Detroit, and Alpha Tau.
  • Silver (21-49 initiates) - Alpha Omega, Gamma Gamma, Beta Eta, Gamma Epsilon, Cleveland, and Gamma Delta.
  • Gold (50 + initiates) - Beta Epsilon, Beta Lambda, and Iota.

Maintain and Increase Membership

  • Ruby (1 - 5) - Central Ohio, Chicago, Indianapolis, and Cleveland.
  • Diamond (6 +) - Gamma Epsilon, Detroit Area, Beta Lambda, Gamma Nu, and Beta Epsilon.

Information Bank

First Vice-President Richard Hayes discussed the Information Bank.   He requested that everyone present submit ideas on retention and involvement for the regional information bank so the topics could be disseminated through the Great Lakes Region newsletter.

Announcements ...

  • Myra reminded everyone about the upcoming Great Lakes Region meetings ... September 10-11, 1999 and April 7-8, 2000.   Both will be held at the Hampton Inn and Suites in South Bend.   There is a task force studying a possible more centralized location or rotating the location of the Great Lakes Region meetings.
  • Myra reminded everyone to send in their chapter's officer list to the International Office if it has not already been sent.  The due date was June 1st.

Proposed By-laws Changes for PLT's Sunday Business Meeting

Second Vice-President Jean Wright led a discussion on the proposed International By-laws changes in the following topics ...

  • Election of International Officers.
  • Election of Vice-Presidents.
  • Regional Presidents as voting members of Biennial Council.
  • Wording for miscellaneous proposed amendments.
  • First semester sophomore admission to PLT.
  • Community College student admission to PLT.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
