"What To Live For !" II Peter 1:1-11 "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." Why Settle For More and Miss the Best? That's the title of a book by Tom Sine, who describes Mill Valley, California. It's one of the most affluent towns in the United States. Every home is worth a million dollars or more, and the driveways are dotted with Mercedes, Porsches, and BMW's. At Christmas, the living rooms look as if a department store had been dropped into them. The schools have the best, most modern equipment available. In short, the town lacks nothing money can busy. But there's another side to the Mill Valley story. Those mansions house one of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the nation. Teen suicide is common. Families break up at an alarming rate. Why settle for more and miss the best? Not only is that a good title, it's a great question to ask ourselves. Today's sermon will ask that question. Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. (2 Peter 1:2-4)
