"Winning Approval" Titus 3:3-8 "Blessed are they who transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him." Today, the sermon is on how God sees us. More to the point, it is about how he values us. All of us have a God-given need for love and acceptance. To win someone's approval, many of us will go virtually any length to meet that need. The world measures individual worth by what one can do or by what one has. We learn to play this "game" of winning the approval of others and even teach it to our children. The problem comes when many do not measure up. Failure is followed by feelings of rejection and hopelessness. The good news is that God measures us by a different standard. It is called GRACE. At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another, but when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he pured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:3-7)
