Gasoline Hometown Express was first established in 1995. We questioned Mike Ooley for some answers about gasoline at Hometown Express, and this is what he said ,"It cost money to bring gas to Hometown Express. The gas is brought from Marathon’s petroleum terminal in Louisville, Kentucky to our store by a large tanker which holds approximately 9000 gallons of gasoline." " In addition the actual cost of gasoline we must pay a considerable amount of tax and we must also pay freight. The freight charge is around 1.75 cents per gallon of gasoline. Therefore, it costs approximately $158 just to transport a load of fuel from Louisville, Kentucky to our station. You might find it interesting to know that taxes are due on each gallon of fuel we sell. This tax must be paid to the state and federal government and can amount to as much as 46 cents per gallon," according to Mr. Ooley. "Many people do not realize that a major portion of the price paid for gasoline goes to the government. The price of gasoline is generally based upon the concept 'supply and demand'. In other words, if consumers or the general public tend to use a lot of fuel, the price may go up. Also if for some reason crude oil (which is used to produce gasoline) is in short supply, gasoline prices will go up. The gasoline we sell in the summer is different then the gasoline we sell in the winter," stated Mr. Ooley. " The gasoline we sell in the winter is called" conventional gasoline. The gasoline we sell in the summer is called 'RVP gasoline'. The RVP is designed to reduce pollutant emissions from automobiles and hopefully to keep the air in our environment clean. The federal government requires us to sell RVP in the summer because they have determined the air in the Louisville, Kentucky area is not clean enough," commented Mr. Ooley. " Unfortunately, the cost of RVP gasoline is usually 5 to 7 cents higher than conventional gasoline. You should also know that most areas of the country are free to sell conventional gasoline all year," he added. We greatly thank Mr. Ooley for spending time explaining the gasoline products and resources of our community.
Human Growth Borden Ridge, the new subdivision is a good resource for the community to draw taxes for the government to do more things in the community. Construction began around 1995-96. It should be finished in the late 2000’s or early 2001’s. Kimballs International and Koetter's Woodworking are a good resource because they provide jobs for numerous people in and around our community
Land Here in Borden, we used to grow cabbage and green beans. Huber’s Orchard and Winery is a you pick orchard. Huber’s Family Farm and Restaurant grows almost every vegetable and fruit available in North America. They are near each other and provide a wonderful resource of food for our community and even in Kentucky.
