ECONOMY / COMMERCE

Back in the early 1800’s, Borden had hotels, theaters, and several doctors on one block.  One of the doctors was named Dr. John Morton Stalker.  At the time, 24 pounds of flour was 75 cents and 70 pounds of salt was 85 cents.

Borden has changed since the early 1800’s.  Now Borden has places such as Hometown Express, Pop’s Country Kitchen, The New Washington State Bank, Springs Valley Bank and Trust, Sandy's Custom Cakes and Desserts, Kimball's, and Valley Hardware.

Senior Citizens meals are served and sold at the Borden Museum for $3.25.

This information was obtained during a tour of the Borden Museum building and guest speaker, Shirley Nolot.   We thank her for her help in our project.
